Former Last Chance U football players are suing Netflix, their School and NJCAA and the Director for 30 million dollars

With the NIL era booming, and players getting paid, the courts are looking at football cases a lot different. That is why six former East Mississippi Community College football players who appeared in the documentary series “Last Chance U” are suing the school, Netflix, the National Junior College Athletic Association and the program’s director over their portrayals.
John Franklin III, Ronald Ollie, C.J. Reavis, Deandre Johnson, Tim Bonner and Isaiah Wright say they are seeking $30 million in damages after receiving no compensation for their contributions to the project.
They say they are holding the defendants accountable “for the wrongful misappropriation of their likeness and to ensure fair compensation for their work.”
Franklin, Ollie and Reavis played for East Mississippi in 2015. Johnson and Bonner were there in 2016. Wright played in both 2015 and 2016.
Last Chance U is a documentary series about junior college athletic programs that benefit from being the last, best chance for players who might be talented enough to make it to the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s top division of sports (played by four-year institutions), but either didn’t have the grades coming out of high school or didn’t have their heads on straight when they were at four-year schools—that could mean academic trouble, legal trouble, or not getting along with their coaching staff.
So now these players are suing and they will likely win! The docuseries has definitely painted a bad picture for the players and I hope they do get something back!
