What made you decide you wanted to be a football player?
Growing up it was one sport to another, and I always liked competing and I realized in middle school I enjoyed football the most and football started to be the main focus, and this was what I wanted to do.
What are your favorite moments from your football life?
In high school, winning a state championship and in college all the people I’ve met that I’ve built relationships with at Southern Illinois and Wake Forest.
What are you looking to achieve as a football player going forward?
The NFL is the dream, I think I can compete with anyone and whichever role I get I’ll do the best job I can in that role I’m in.
If you could hang out with any football player past or present for a day, who and why?
Luke Kuechly, seeing how he prepared and watched film, and I would love to see how he did that and how he played as well.
Which one of your family members inspires you the most and why?
My dad, that was where all the sports came from and my love for competing, and sports is from and doing all the stuff in the backyard.
What is your favorite defensive scheme and why?
I don’t really prefer one or another, at Wake Forest we ran a 4-2-5 and I felt like I could play mike or will and at Southern Illinois we ran a 3-3-5 stack, and it was a lot faster and fun.
What should we know about Branson Combs the person?
I’m a hard-working guy, does whatever it takes to win and I’m going to thrive in whatever role I’m in, excited for opportunities ready to work.
What stands out about your film the most?
I have a pretty good ability to play sideline to sideline and my ability to recognize things and play fast gives me an edge.
How do you handle challenges both in life and on the football field?
Tackle it head on in just about anything you do and not shy away from it in football and in life as well, just tackle things head on and get them fixed.
What would a team get in a player like you?
I’m going to come in every day and thrive in whatever role I get and take advantage of whatever is given to me.
What do you love the most about the game of football?
The ability to go out and compete and contact is involved and the feelings after wins and what you learn from losses and the desire to win makes the game fun.
Who is the most underrated player you’ve played with and why?
I know at Southern Illinois at the FCS level, you can find some really good players that can make an impact at the FBS level and in the NFL and I played with a lot of guys at Southern Illinois that I felt could make that impact.
