Patriots fire Jerod Mayo after going 4-13 in year one, three potential names to watch out for
Written by Karver Jordan
The New England Patriots have fired Jerod Mayo just after one season, Mayo went 4-13 in year one with New England. Many fans have been calling for Jerod Mayo to be fired due to Media Interviews, Coaching decisions, and many more reasons. The Mayo experiment did not go as planned and now New England will look to find a replacement for the young coach.
- New England is expected to interview Mike Vrabel a former Patriots player and a former Tennessee Titans Head Coach, Vrabel would go to win 54 games as the Titans head coach and lose 45 games. A winning percent of .545 is pretty solid, and Patriot fans have always loved the idea of Vrabel being the next head coach. In the Playoffs as the Titans head coach he went 2 – 3, one of his biggest wins was defeating the New England Patriots in 2020 to end Tom Brady career in New England.
- Brian Flores the current Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator has ties with New England, Flores is a very smart defensive minded coach who got the chance to learn under Bill Belichick, Flores was an average coach with Miami Dolphins where he would record a 24 win and 25 loss record. Due to his recent success as the Vikings DC and his ties with New England, he is number two on my list.
- The last coach to watch for is Ben Johnson, the Offensive Coordinator for the high-powered Detroit Lions. If the Patriots want to get someone who would relate well with Drake Maye and the offense, Johnson is the coach to go for. Ben Johnson is a former UNC Quarterback and could relate well with the young signal caller in Drake Maye. He is a name to watch and is someone who creates exciting play calls.
All three of these options are coaches I wouldn’t mind seeing in New England. I fully trust the Kraft family to find the next coach to fill in Bill Belichick’s shoes. There are plenty of options to choose from and with Black Monday being tomorrow (Monday 1/6/2025), some coaches could hit the market that could spark interest. More news to come out of New England.
