What made you decide you wanted to be a football player?
I’ve been in love with the game for as long as I can remember. Being a little kid, running around playing football was all I wanted to do. My family has a history in the NFL and I’ve just been around the sport since I was little so I knew this is what I wanted to do from a pretty young age.
What are your favorite moments from your football life?
My favorite moments from my football life have to be the places I’ve been able to go to and the people I’ve had the chance to meet. Football has opened up so many doors to new possibilities and it’s truly been an amazing experience. A lot of my favorite moments happened on the road. Playing in big game on the road, against a rival, an underdog, a playoff game, etc. I love playing on the road.
What are you looking to achieve as a football player going forward?
As I move forward as a football player, I’m looking to achieve my lifetime goals of playing professional football. It’s been on my mind since I first picked up a football. I know as I continue to go through this process I know I want need to keep growing and getting better as a football player and person. Take the necessary strides everyday to get to where I want to be.
If you could hang out with any football player past or present for a day who and why?
If I could hang out with any football player from the past or present I would choose between one of these three: Pat Mahomes, Russell Wilson and Marcus Mariota. I grew up in the Seattle area so when Russ was doing his thing with the hawks, it was something to watch and I feel like I took a lot from his game and implemented it into mine. I’ve also had the opportunity to train with him a few times. I grew up watching Marcus Mariota when he was at Oregon and I just loved how he played the game so it would be really cool to meet him and see his side of things. Meeting Pat would be amazing. Love how he competes and plays the game. I have family ties to Texas Tech too so it would be pretty cool to have that connection.
Which one of your family members inspires you the most and why?
They all inspire me. All of us were student athletes for the majority of our lives so they get where i’m coming from. But each of them are truly inspiring in their own ways. Each having something different to offer me and I can’t thank them enough for helping me get to this point.
What is your favorite offensive scheme and why?
I’ve had the opportunity to be around some very good offensive schemes and I have pulled a lot from each one. I really love the West Coast pro style offenses. I was under center for a huge part of my career at Weber State University under Matt Hammer and Dave Schramm. I was given the opportunity to make certain calls, checks and protection at the line of scrimmage which I loved. Being able to get us in the right play or position for success was something I really enjoyed. I’ve also been in offenses that are more spread. There are its bonuses to that but I prefer to get under center. Play-action sets, rhythm throws and timing was something I excel at.
What should we know about Teryn Berry the person?
Something that anyone should know about me as a person is that I’m incredibly driven and passionate about what I want to do. Football aside, I will do anything to make my dreams become a reality. Doesn’t matter what it may be. It’s like a relentless pursuit. I just will not stop until I achieve my goals and I don’t care how long it takes. I’ve had my eyes set on this for as long as I can remember and have been playing football in college for a very long time to help me achieve my professional aspirations. I’m the same why in life, relationships, family and friends. When I have something I really want or have happen, I must see it done. Just how my brain works.
What stands out about your film the most?
In my film, I think some of the things that stand out the most are my timing, rhythm and accuracy as well as off platform throws from the pocket. Being able to throw timing routes with clean feet, anticipation and rhythm was a huge strength of mine during the season. I think one thing on my tape that’s stands out was my ability to make certain throws from a dirty pocket. Having to throw slightly off platform. Not being able to get my feet completely set, or my shoulder turned, or hips through. Small side steps to avoid pressure. I think that was a big strength. I would also say durability and composure. Being able to take some hits and make accurate throws in the face of pressure was another thing I felt I handled very well during the season.
How do you handle challenges both in life and on the football field?
I take them in stride. I know that things take time. And overcoming an obstacle and challenge can take a long time to get over. So I understand that I have to be persistent, relentless and keep making strides everyday to overcome challenges and adversity. Keep stacking good days and keep going in the right direction. Doesn’t have to be big strides either. Get better at something in my game everyday to help me handle challenges on the football field. That goes the same in life for me. What can I do today that will help me tomorrow? Being consistent, proactive and willing to do the things necessary to overcome whatever I’m facing.
What would a team get in a player like you?
A team would get a competitive, driven, all in type of player. A leader, a general and someone who wants success for others just as bad as he wants it for himself. A team would get a player who understands the game and can manage the game well enough where it gives us an edge. I know a team would get my absolute best every single day. Lifting, meeting, practice, games, whatever. No matter what it is I’m all in. I’ve played nearly 7 years of college football so a team would also get a very experienced player who’s played the position for a long time at a high level.
What do you love the most about the game of football?
I love the high pressure moments. I love when the game is decided on whether or not we hold them in defense or have to score on offense. I love when the game is in my hands and we have to go win it. I’ve always enjoyed the work. Day in and day out, putting in the work to have success. Putting in the lonely work that no one sees until game-day. That aspect is very important to me. Like I said before, I love the people I’ve met and the places I’ve had the chance to be and play. Football has taken me everywhere. All the way from Washington to Utah, Illinois and Nebraska. Football has given me avenues to a lot of different things and that’s really cool to see and understand.
Who is the most underrated player you’ve played with and why?
Some of the most underrated players I’ve played with are at Midland University. Tyson Denkert, Tim Brown, Kevin Adams, AJ McPhee and Tae Marks. A ton of super talented guys who are all elite players but I felt they didn’t get the recognition they deserved. You need a supporting cast as a QB and I felt like these are the type of guys that are the hidden gems of a team.
