Future Prospect Talk: Villanova RB David Avit
From an elite high-level Maryland prospect to one of the best-kept secrets in college football, Villanova running back David Avit is HIM!!!! The 6’0 220 pound explosive talent took the FCS by storm his freshman season rushing for 923 yards and 9 touchdowns with 5.3 yards per carry. Avit has displayed an all-around dynamic ability to make plays. In a game against Eastern Kentucky, he rushed for his best all-around game of the season, rushing for 94 yards on 17 carries and catching 2 passes for 75 yards. He had an amazing 183-yard game on just 13 carries that’s an average of 14.1 yards per carry, and 4 touchdowns plus a 72-yard touchdown run, Saquon Barkley-like. Avit helped lead a very talented Villanova program to a 10-4 record. He was named FCS freshman All-American, CAA offensive rookie of the year, CAA rookie of the year, and CAA honorable mention. Avit is destined for a great career with Villanova, the limit is the sky with his ability. He talked to me about this past season, what to expect this year, and more for NFL Draft Diamonds.
Leader: What a freshman year. How did you feel about this season?
David: It was a pretty good year. I feel like I was able to display some of my capabilities but I feel like I have a lot more to offer that I didn’t show and will be working on this off-season.
Leader: What’s your 40 time and what do you think you did to prepare to be a better back this year?
David: I ran a 4.59 laser and I worked on my explosiveness because that was what college coaches wanted to see from me.
Leader: When you were my guest on High Level Sports Talk you brought up a legendary name in Herschel Walker. Talk about how his influence made you want to play football? What fascinated you about the way he played?
David: It was the first documentary I can remember watching him run against the train . Just seeing the amount of intensity he ran inspired me to be back and I try to emulate him in my game a little.
Leader: What kind of back would you describe yourself as?
David: An all-can-do guy. I think I can run, block, and catch at a high level so whatever a coach asks me to do I can do it.
Leader: What about your skills that would help impact an NFL team?
David: my ability to block I have matched up with many backers and even dlinemam this year.
Leader: What stood out about this year’s Villanova team?
David: Definitely the defense they balled out all year, also the leadership from the older guys like Cat Bean Mims and Bell, guys really look up to those players and it was always good being around them.
Leader: This is a new bright era for running backs. Who do you feel is the best running back in the NFL this year and who is your favorite and why?
David: Saquon you don’t see anyone doing what he’s doing right now. He’s balling at a different level and it’s inspirational.
Leader: Character is very important. The game is 90 percent mental so I feel like this is my most important question. What would you add to an NFL locker room?
David: Someone who people know they can count on someone who is going to show up every day and give it 110%.
Leader: You talked a lot about how good this offensive line of Villanova is. Talk about how strong the bond between a running back and an offensive line has to be.
David: You have to be tight with your guys up front we’re fortunate enough to not be losing any linemen this year so everyone is hyped to see what type of running unit we can be.
Leader: You come from Maryland so I would say The Ravens or the Commanders are your favorite teams.
David: Commanders.
Leader: What NFL defender you can’t wait to run over? Why?
David: Fred Warner anytime someone makes a play against him it’s everywhere he’s a formidable opponent so being able to make a big play on him is something I look forward to.
Leader: You opened a lot of eyes this year. What is your goal for next season with the Villanova Wildcats?
David: Win a national championship.
