Texas High School Football Player Aleks Medrano passed away at 17
The Columbus, Texas community is mourning the death of a high school football player Aleks Medrano after the player succumbed to an illness Wednesday night, Oct. 2.
The 17-year-old died at a Texas Children’s Hospital after a heroic fight for his life.
Medrano was a senior at Columbus high school and a defensive end and offensive lineman for the Columbus Cardinals.
Columbus ISD expressed their condolences, stating:
“It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we inform you of the passing of one of our students… Our thoughts and prayers are with the student’s family, friends, and all those affected by this heartbreaking loss.”
The community has rallied together, hosting prayer services and raising funds to support the Medrano family. Local businesses have also joined in, offering proceeds from various sales to help during this difficult time.
