Player Summary:

An RSR transferred from CAST in 2022. Toomer has an above-average height and weight of an NFL CB. He has long arms and a slender athletic build. He doesn’t possess a physically intimidating presence and leans towards playing a more finesse style of play. Plays both RC and LC and as a DS. Toomer is instinctive, and heady, containing a marginal sense of self-awareness. His run defense is decent in terms of being physical, and unhesitant in run support taking on blockers twice his size around the LOS to effectuate the play. Able to take on WR blocks outside of the perimeter. He has the self-awareness to keep the play inside, with his backside facing the sideline if the runner is on his side of the field. May not make the play, but puts his body in position to potentially effectuate it. He is marginal in terms of a CB involved in run defense. Technique-wise, he is solid in terms of low pad level during pre-snap and at the beginning of the stem. Able to turn his hips effectively and get in coverage fluidly, especially in the passing game. Use of hands is marginal as well as hand placement tends to place hands on WR which could possibly lead to a PI. Plays with confidence, but at times he appears to be lost in coverage.

Scheme Fit:

Zone, 2 Deep, 3 Deep

Power Statement:

Contains tangibles more of a DS than a CB. Not physically strong, and has quality mechanics. Mechanical style of play nothing more.
