Tristan Schaar’s Jaguars vs Dolphins Season-Opener Preview

Tristan Schaar’s Jaguars vs Dolphins Season-Opener Preview

The Jacksonville Jaguars are excited to start the 2024 campaign with a clean slate as they travel 332 miles south to take on Tua Tagovailoa and the Miami Dolphins for a much-anticipated shootout in Miami Gardens on Sunday.

Last year was one to forget for Jaguars fans. After starting the year 8-3, things took a turn for the worse for the team representing DUUVAL.

Injuries and poor performances from the 26th-ranked secondary in the league had other plans for the Jaguars as they ended up finishing the season losing five out of their final six games (9-8) and finding themselves without a playoff spot.

For Miami on the other hand, the Dolphins were able to clinch a second consecutive playoff appearance after another great season under head coach Mike McDaniel.

Speed kills, and Miami has plenty of it. Wide receivers Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle were as dominant as ever in the pass-catching department last year and the two-headed backfield of Raheem Mostert and Devon Achane was undoubtedly the best runningback tandem in the NFL.

There’s no stopping the speedsters representing South Beach!

Prediction

Heading into Sunday, the Jaguars sit at +3.5 point underdog and will need to dominate the possession game if they want to walk out of Miami with a win.

Both offenses today have plenty of weapons to get the job done but the outcome of this game will be determined by which quarterback keeps the mistakes to a minimum.

Lawrence and Tagovailoa have had a recent track record for making poor decisions with the ball in their hands so look for both defenses to apply heavy pressure throughout the game to attempt and slow down an expected high-scoring affair.

Score Prediction:

Jaguars: 27

Dolphins: 24

Tristan’s Keys to Success

Jacksonville Jaguars:

  • Spread the ball across the field, the Jaguars have plenty of great pass-catchers this year.
  • Stay out of man coverage, the Dolphins are equipped with speed everywhere, don’t get beat deep, and keep a zone coverage look.
  • Own the possession game and keep Miami honest in the run game with Travis Etienne and Tank Bigsby.

Miami Dolphins:

  • Test the Jaguars secondary early on and take deep shots down the field.
  • Apply heavy pressure on Jacksonville’s offensive line, making Lawrence uncomfortable in the pocket.
  • Get running backs Achane/Mostert involved in the passing game.
