Player Summary:
This QB has undersized measurables for the position, he has a stocky shorter build with a thick lower body and possesses solid AA. He is a dual-threat QB who operates well in a read-option system. He has solid linear speed with ordinary lateral quickness. Pavia is comfortable running the ball in traffic, often welcoming contact to gain the extra yard. He shows toughness and grit with the ability to improvise, he has a good initial burst through the hole but does not possess the speed to be an instant game-changer with the ball on the run. In the passing game, he is a short to intermediate sniper completing most of his passes in the quick pass game. He is a one-read QB, if his first option is not open Pavia will tuck it and run. He is inconsistent with his deep ball placement and struggles driving the ball downfield. His downfield throws lack the velocity often floating for longer periods. Due to his comfortability running the ball, his decision-making is solid, he will run the ball instead of taking the risk of throwing an errant pass. He will struggle against a defense that forces him to stand tall and throw the ball in the pocket.
Overall, Pavia is a raw prospect who is a gamer who will improvise to extend plays, he thrives playing in systems geared towards his strength which is making quick decisions and running the ball. His throwing motion is short as he does not bring his hips and shoulders when releasing the ball.
Scheme Fit:
Read option, West Coast offense
Power Statement:
This prospect has ordinary accuracy with marginal arm strength, he is most comfortable rolling out of the pocket when throwing the ball and is a downhill runner. At the next level exploring a position change may be better suited for the prospect long term. He has the stature of a running back, his toughness and ability to make plays gives teams the option to have a utility player. He is a developmental player that has the grit to make the position change.
