Can the Kansas City Chiefs Make It Number Five This Year?
The Kansas City Chiefs have cemented themselves as one of the NFL’s most successful franchises, with four Super Bowl titles to their name. After winning their most recent championship in Super Bowl LVIII, the Chiefs have now established a dynasty, becoming only the seventh franchise to win four Super Bowls. As the 2024 season approaches, the question on everyone’s mind is: can the Chiefs make it number five this year?
The Chiefs’ journey to their fourth Super Bowl championship was nothing short of remarkable. In the 2022 season, they traded away star wide receiver Tyreek Hill, opting to build through the draft and rely on the leadership of quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Even after the trade, the Chiefs completed the regular season with a strong 14–3 record, with their only losses coming against the Bills, Colts, and Bengals—each by a margin of fewer than four points. Their resilience was on full display as they clinched the #1 seed in the AFC playoffs, hosted their fifth consecutive AFC Championship Game, and ultimately defeated the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII.
Entering the 2023 season as defending champions, the Chiefs faced new challenges. They finished with an 11–6 record, their least successful under Mahomes, yet still secured their eighth consecutive division title. In the playoffs, they powered through frigid weather to defeat the Miami Dolphins and edged out the Buffalo Bills on the road. Their determination culminated in a victory over the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship Game, followed by an overtime thriller against the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII.
With three Super Bowl wins in five years, the Chiefs have solidified their place as a modern dynasty. But the NFL is a league of constant evolution, and repeating success is no easy task.
The 2024 NFL schedule presents the Chiefs with several critical matchups that will likely define their quest for a fifth Super Bowl title. The season opener against the Baltimore Ravens on September 5 is a high-stakes game that will set the tone for the rest of the year. The Ravens, a perennial playoff contender, will be eager to challenge the Chiefs’ supremacy in the AFC.
In Week 2, the Chiefs face the Cincinnati Bengals in a rematch of the 2022 AFC Championship Game. This game is more than just an early-season contest; it’s a litmus test for both teams. The Bengals have been one of the few teams to consistently challenge the Chiefs, and this matchup could have significant implications for playoff seeding down the line.
Another pivotal game comes in Week 4 when the Chiefs travel to Los Angeles to take on the Chargers. The Chargers have long been the Chiefs’ primary competition in the AFC West, and this game could determine early control of the division.
The Chiefs will need to bring their A-game to maintain their dominance in one of the NFL’s toughest divisions. The outcome here will likely be a major focus for those interested in wagering on odds football, as division games often carry significant weight in shaping the season’s betting landscape.
As the 2024 season unfolds, all eyes will be on Kansas City. With a strong core of players, a championship-winning coach and the experience of multiple Super Bowl runs, the Chiefs have all the ingredients needed to make it number five this year. But in the NFL, nothing is guaranteed.
The quest for five starts now.
