Player Summary:

Brian Ugwu played at Rutgers University (19’-21’) before transferring to Miami University in 2022. He did not see a lot of playing time while at Rutgers due to an ACL injury. Ugwu has a solid frame for an edge rusher and has the ability to put on more weight & muscle. He shows good bursts off the LOS, with quick feet and a solid first step to help break up plays early. Brian displays average agility and lateral movements to navigate through traffic. In pass-rush, Ugwu utilizes his hands well to separate from blockers. He has solid lower body strength and power during runs/rush. Ugwa struggles overpowering bigger blockers. He also has a good eye and instincts while in pursuit of the QB. Brian shows good effort and the ability to finish plays. In run defense, he is solid at setting the edge.  And he shows good discipline when maintaining gap responsibilities. Ugwu displays good speed and effort while chasing ball carriers. He is not an elite runner and struggles against faster opponents. He can improve on his flexibility and his hip ROM to get around the edge. Brian has a good football IQ to recognize and react to run vs. pass plays. Overall, he is a player that offers good athleticism and versatility to the defense.

Ugwu has the ability to play as a defensive end in a 4-3 scheme or as an outside linebacker in a 3-4 scheme. 

Power Statement:

Ugwu is a reliable tackler with good size, strength and hands. He is quick to read plays and get in position. He has the potential to play at a higher level. Overall, player that you can win with.
