Player Summary:

Bert Hale is a 5th year senior at Louisiana Tech. He started out his career in a rotation on special teams and now has carved out a starting role for the Bulldogs in 2024. Hale has very good height & an elite frame of an interior offensive linemen. He possesses very good power and physical strength to dominate and stall opponents at the POA. In pass pro, he has a good initial punch to get opponents attention and plays with good footwork and hand technique vs power moves. His exceptional strength makes it difficult for defenders to move him off his spot. Displays a very good anchor ability to sink stop power rush in its tracks. Solid awareness vs stunts and twists, keep head on a swivel to check for crossing defenders. In Gap, he plays with very good technique to execute down/DBL team blocks and wash defenders out on the interior. Acts as a bulldozer in space as a puller, able to wipe out DB’s & LB’s in space. Overall, good sustain ability as a run blocker to hold off defenders on interior and seal lanes. Solid finish ability as a run blocker as well, can put you on your back if you play off balance. Adequate hand technique vs speed moves, struggles to contain opponents with plus get off and technique and hands tend to get wide. Adequate get off on Zone concepts and struggles with reach/scoop blocks vs quicker defensive linemen. Marginal short area quickness to climb to second level and engage with defenders in a timely manner. Although effective as a puller in Gap., Defenders with a good get-off have the ability to shoot his gap responsibility and beat him to his spot.

Scheme Fit:

Run first, inside gap/power I scheme.

Power Statement:

Bert Hale embodies what it means to be a mauler with his ability to stall and relocate his opponents. He is very challenger athletically and struggles to get lateral and matchup with speed, but in the right system he can serve as a valuable interior piece for an offensive line.
