Player Summary:
Kyle Morlock is a fifth-year senior TE with five seasons of starting experience. Transfer from Shorter University prior to the 2023 season. He typically aligns attached to the core both on and off the ball, but has played split-out as well. A tall tight end prospect with a light frame and room to add weight. Rapid firing feet in zone scheme while climbing to the second level while helping teammates inside. Gathers himself with a balanced base and a solid punch when striking. Excellent understanding of leverage to maintain blocks for longer periods of time using solid strength. On the perimeter, he has an excellent feel for setting up blocks and creates running lanes for his teammates regularly. In pass protection, he uses a solid punch and a balanced base to maintain blocks against blitzing linebackers. Quality speed matched with long strides in space make him a formidable threat downfield. Catches passes at odd angles with notable body control and dexterity. With the ball in his hands, he is able to find running lanes and maximize yards after the catch. Tough on contact and utilizes considerable balance to stay on his feet and fight for extra yards. His lack of size hinders his ability to hold his own in the trenches vs. edge rushers. Need to see more physicality on engagement as a lead blocker to drive linebackers out of the gap. Doesn’t pose as a significant receiving threat other than in the underneath game. Marginal twitch and route-running ability limit his ability to separate from defenders. While he has solid speed, he will not be able to pull away from defenders, limiting his impact after the catch.
Scheme Fit:
Best aligns as a split-out TE who can sustain blocks in space and use solid speed to stretch the field vertically. He can align attached to the core, but will need to gain weight to hold his own in the trenches at the next level.
Power Statement:
A veteran tight end with polished blocking skills, an excellent understanding of blocking schemes, and can be a valuable passing target underneath who can stretch the field vertically when you need him to. He needs to add weight to hold his own at the next level, and his receiving impact will be hindered due to his lack of hip fluidity, twitch, and route-running ability.
