Norfolk State running back Kevon King delivered a breakout performance in the Spartans’ 14-23 loss to Florida A&M during the MEAC/SWAC Challenge on Saturday.

The junior from Chesapeake, Va., led NSU’s offense with 146 rushing yards and two touchdowns, setting a new career high.

Among his 14 carries was a standout 82-yard run.

“I just trusted the process, watched the film with our coaches, and we executed plays,” King said about his approach against the FAMU defense.

This marked the second game in King’s career where he surpassed 100 rushing yards and scored multiple touchdowns.

King, who was named to the second-team preseason All-MEAC, ran the ball 90 times for 429 yards and five touchdowns last year, with all five touchdowns coming in the final four games of the 2023 season.

As a freshman in 2022, King recorded 48 carries for 261 yards and one touchdown.

Over his first 20 games at Norfolk State, King has averaged 7.6 carries and 41.8 yards per game, with his 2023 averages slightly higher at 10 carries and 47.6 yards per game.

King has not redshirted during his time at Norfolk State, having played in all 10 games as a freshman.
