Player Summary:

Jordan Bertagnole is a rSr from Casper, Wyoming. As a recruit he got overlooked, leading to him signing with the hometown Wyoming Cowboys. After redshirting in 2019, he created a decent impact getting 4 starts and recording really impressive numbers, earning himself an expanded role in the following season. He has solid height, adequate weight, and appears to have ordinary arm length. Displays solid AA, with solid initial quickness, good lateral quickness, flexibility, adequate bend, and COD. Gets out of his stance with little to no false step allowing him to get vertical quickly and gain ground on his matchup. Good maintaining gap integrity, uses good lateral quickness and above-average UOH to keep leverage in a two-gap scheme. Impressive shock and shed with good timing allows him to meet ball carriers near LOS for TFLs or no gain., his hat position being so consistent puts him in a position to make plays vs the run often. Good leverage taking on double teams, The majority of the time he is the low man and keeps square so he can limit the ground he gives up. Due to him being undersized and having below-average play strength for the position, he can get moved if he does not have a solid lower base paired with ground control. Shocking production as a pass rusher due to a marginal pass rush plan, it is not clear he is going in with certain actions to find success. When he does win, it is due to a well-timed counter, usually landing a double swipe versus the OL’s initial punch. Has shown he can create space with lateral quickness and pair it with a stab from his inside hand, showing adequate bend at his size. Solid in the twist game, as a crasher, he takes efficient paths and uses the initial quickness to convert speed to power, can improve on occupying both OL’s when making contact.

Scheme Fit

3-5 tech in odd 2 gap scheme

Power Statement

Bertagnole is a versatile piece that can align anywhere from 1-7 techniques in multiple fronts. Wyoming showed many different fronts that showcased him in different positions. A really impressive run defender with tools to improve as a pass rusher, with a good season he could launch himself into day 3 conversations.
