Three high school football players have died this year after practicing in the heat
Three high school football players in Alabama, Missouri and Georgia have died this month after collapsing while practicing during high temperatures.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 1,200 people are killed by extreme heat annually.
A Missouri high school football player tragically died this week after suffering a medical emergency after practice in 100-degree heat earlier this week.
The student, a sophomore at Shawnee Mission Northwest High School in Kansas City, Missouri, died on Friday.
He was identified as 15-year-old Ovet Gomez Regalado in a letter from the district sent to families after the devastating loss.
