Player Summary:

Defensive Tackle that lines up mostly at the 1-tech, sometimes 3-tech in a 4 man front. Has good athletic traits and displays good power for the position. Above-average strength for the position and uses it to anchor himself and sustain blocks in the run game. Displays above-average speed for the position and uses it to close the gap between him and the ball carrier. Player lacks a good vertical first step and initial explosion and shows a bad habit of catching blocks. He relies on his strength rather than technique to defeat the blocker and this at times keeps him from making the play. A good physical tackler that shows the ability to take down the ball carrier when he gets his hands on him. Gourdine shows a great ability of using his strength to take on the double team and does a good job of anchoring himself to not get knocked off the line of scrimmage. He displays good arm extension in the run game by using his arms to lock out and control the blocker but lacks backfield vision and the ability to control his gap. Gourdine does a good job of staying on his feet and keeping himself in the play. In the pass game, Gourdine puts his strength on display and uses a variety of power rush moves to collapse the pocket and get to the passer. His above-average speed puts pressure on the quarterback and forces the passer to make a decision quicker due to his ability to provide quick interior pressure. Overall, Gourdine is a strong, fast player who needs technique work to take that next step. He has the physical traits needed for the position but needs to sharpen his explosiveness, pad level, and initial first step.

Scheme Fit:

4-3 3-tech

Power Statement:

Strong and physical defensive tackle that can beat the blocker with his power and strength. Needs to work on pad level and explosiveness to take the next step to develop his game. With good coaching and technique work, this player has the ability to develop into a good 3-tech tackle by taking advantage of his strength to stop the run and speed to rush the passer.
