Player Summary:

A 6-foot, even 300-pound DT with a compact build and below-average arm length, Bariteau is undersized in stature but plays with great leverage. He possesses a good explosive first step. At the POA, he plays violently within the interior, often embracing the double-team at the 1-tech. His leverage allows him to hold the LOS defending against the run. He rarely resets the LOS, although shows good grip strength when engaged. Bariteau shows adequate lateral quickness in the run game. When engaged 1 on 1, he does a solid job of shedding the blocker. Colorado State uses him in 3-4 and 4-3 fronts, lining up in 1-7 techniques. Bariteau maximizes his ability in his compact frame by playing relentlessly against the run. His explosive first step initially stuns the offensive lineman, yet struggles to collapse the pocket or disrupt the quarterback on passing downs. Speed to power, the bull rush is his technique of choice. Bariteau is least effective when Offensive linemen play with leverage and strength. He often becomes a pedestrian in the passing game. He shows limited use of his hands when in pass rush allowing opponents to strike and get hands on him in pass pro.

Overall, Bariteau is a developmental guy at the next level, yet possesses the tenacity to play the position. His undersized frame can be his biggest attribute, gaining immediate leverage in the run game. He must use his hands more effectively and add to his toolbox in the passing game to be an effective pass rusher. He can line up at the 3-tech or 1-tech, although his body type and ability are suited for the 1-tech at the next level.

Scheme Fit:

4-3, 1-Tech.

Power Statement:

Bariteau is a physical, interior player who will be effective defending the run using his first step to set the LOS, disrupting gap scheme offensive systems. Below-average hand use will limit his ability to be an effective pass rusher.
