NFL Draft Diamonds Scouting Report: Cooper DeJean, CB, Iowa

- Name: Cooper DeJean
- Number: #3
- Postion: Cornerback
- College: Iowa
Cooper DeJean is a pure athletic corner. He excels in both run defense and pass coverage. He maintains good hip movement and ball tracking when the ball is in the air. He has excellent instincts and can read the quarterback quickly and efficiently, as his three pick-sixes in 2022 indicate.
He’s an able tackler out in the flat, as he can read checkdowns and screens quite well. His block shedding and overall strength are his major areas of weakness. When locked in a block, he is easily movable and frozen.
When attempting to stuff a run, if blocked by a lineman, he has difficulty shedding the block. In the NFL he may be out-muscled at the top of routes, so I would prefer to play him inside, as he excels in the slot. His athleticism is forgiving of his mistakes, as he can counter after he commits one.
