What is going on in Denver? Which direction will they select in the 2024 NFL Draft?

The Broncos just ended a two-year relationship with Russell Wilson, and it was an ugly one. As they move on from Wilson, the question of where they are headed seems a bit foggy to say the least.

The Broncos hold the 12th pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, which is a bit of an awkward spot. They’re too low to grab a top tier quarterback, but also too high to justify taking a secondary tier quarterback like Nix or Penix. 

Quarterback isn’t the only direction they could head in with that pick however. When looking at the Broncos roster, it’s apparent they’re in need of more than just a quarterback. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Jerry Jeudy and Courtland Sutton gone from the team by the time the 2024 season begins. This would inherently mean that playmakers are also a team need. Again, the 12th pick is awkward because the top tiered playmakers like Marvin Harrison Jr, Malik Nabers and Rome Odunze will likely be gone. Selecting someone like Brian Thomas Jr, or Adonai Mitchell at 12 may be too hasty however. 

With the 12th pick, I believe the Broncos safest option is selecting one of the top tier defensive players, since they will nearly all be available. Someone like Terrion Arnold to pair up with former Alabama CB Patrick Surtain or Florida State’s Jared Verse to give the Broncos some power to an edge front that is quite unimpressive as of now. 

While the Broncos have numerous directions they could pursue, drafting a quarterback at some point seems plausible, whether at pick number 12 or later rounds. Additionally, exploring trade options to maneuver within the draft, given the awkwardness of their current pick, could also be on the table.

Overall, the Broncos face a pivotal decision in the draft, one that could shape the trajectory of the franchise for years to come. With multiple needs to address and a challenging draft position, their approach will be closely watched by fans and analysts alike.
