Jacksonville Jaguars Free Agency Report Card

Now this article was meant to be written and published a few days ago recapping one of the most productive free agencies for the Jacksonville Jaguars dating back to Doug Pederson’s opening campaign in 2022. However (in a good way) the team just kept spending and spending so I think now’s a good time to finally share my final report card on how they did.

If you’ve kept up with the NFL recently you’d know that this offseason has been quite hectic for about the last week now. Teams around the league are going on a releasing frenzy “cleaning house” to free up extra cap space more than we’ve ever seen before.

With that being said, I could probably write a 10+ page report about all the superstars who have found themselves new homes around the league this upcoming season, but the Jaguars deserve their own story.

Jacksonville began their busy free agency on March 10th with probably the most surprising move they made all offseason, trading for 2021 first-round pick quarterback Mac Jones from the New England Patriots. The Jacksonville native will likely serve as the team’s #2 to Trevor Lawrence which could be a pretty big upgrade from last year.

The very next day is when general manager Trent Baalke opened up the checkbook most notably with the additions of wide receiver Gabe Davis (3-year deal up to $50M) and safety Darnell Savage (3-year $21M deal).

However, some may argue that the biggest splash came just a few days later for the Jaguars. The former 49er Arik Armstead was able to come to an agreement with the team on a 3-year $51M deal. Armstead who’s been a huge part of the Niner’s defensive success reported after the 2023 season ended that he played through a torn meniscus during the playoffs but will be ready post-surgery for training camp this summer.

Other Notable New Signings:

Mitch Morse (OL)

Devin Duvernay (WR/KR/PR)

Ronald Darby (CB)

Trevis Gipson (OLB)

Joey Sly (K)

The two most important names to get re-signed for returning Jaguars were edge rusher Josh Allen and wide receiver Calvin Ridley. Thankfully Jacksonville used the much-hated franchise tag to keep Allen in Duuval but did let Ridley walk; which I expected would happen. With Ridley signing with the divisional rival Tennessee Titans on a 4-year $92M deal look for the Jaguars to address WR early on in this year’s upcoming draft.

Other Re-Signed Jaguars:

Ezra Cleveland (OL)

Daniel Thomas (S)

D’Ernest Johnson (RB)

Caleb Johnson (LB)

Blake Hance (OL)

Jeremiah Ledbetter (DL)
