People continue to talk about McCarthy, Nix and Penix as the second tier guys when it comes to the quarterback draft class. What about Spencer Rattler?

Rattler’s struggles with Oklahoma in the Big 12 are concerning, but after transferring to the SEC at South Carolina, he did his best to improve his stock ahead of his draft class. He is an able runner but prefers to sit in the pocket and deliver. He has a quick release, but will often hold on  to the ball too long and scramble inside the pocket without looking upfield. He has great arm strength, and is accurate on most throws. He places a good zip on the ball and his ball placement is an overall plus. He’s a natural athlete, but lacks in departments such as overall size, football IQ, field vision, and his overall decision making.

He has various tools to be considered a legit quarterback, but lacks the know-how and when to use his skills. He needs refinement in many areas, some of which he lacks the ability altogether.

When you watch Rattler, there’s no denying that there is a solid level of talent. If he’s able to piece it all together and use all the tools he has in his arsenal, he could be a really great value pick.
