Player Summary:
Littlejohn is a sixth-year defensive back who started three seasons as a single-high free safety in Stetson’s 3-3-5 base defense. Possesses a slight, lengthy build, below-average weight, and questionable growth potential to add additional mass to his frame. He is a bit light in the lower half. Operates with moderate play speed & range to roam the backend as a deep safety. His straight-line speed is decent but his keen instincts & play diagnosis keep him in position to stay on top of intermediate/vertical routes. Maintains quality awareness and active eyes to identify late threats to his zone. Displays sharp ball reactions to jump into passing lanes and natural ball instincts to cut off the ball at the catch point. Offers quality length and ball skills to secure contested catches at the highest point. Has the requisite size & physicality to drop down into the slot and play bump-and-run coverage against slots & tight ends alike. Provides serviceable third-down value as a deep-zone safety or a cover 0 strong nickel. Littlejohn is a productive run defender with a sudden trigger and unwavering toughness to fill interior rushing lanes from the deep safety spot. Exhibits solid toughness to step down into the box and contribute as a first-level run defender. Works with swift burst/acceleration and good blitz timing to penetrate the backfield untouched. Takes great angles to track the inside hip when pursuing the ball from sideline to sideline. Aggressive and controlled at the point of impact to secure open-field tackles in one-on-one situations. Not a thumper, but he tackles with a visible edge. Has an accurate radar as an ankle biter and rarely misses tackles in space. Additionally, he presents extensive special teams experience on punt and kickoff coverage teams.
Scheme Fit:
Two-high free safety with the upside to line up at strong nickel in 3-3-5/4-2-5 packages.
Power Statement:
Rassie Littlejohn is an instinctual, ball-hawking safety with sharp ball reactions, quality ball skills, and noteworthy ball production. He’s a very willing run defender with secure open-field tackling ability. Also adds great burst/acceleration, toughness, and scheme versatility to blitz from multiple alignments.
