A brief introduction about Que Reid
Que Reid is a safety from James Madison University (JMU) who did his undergrad at James Madison University and is now pursuing his master’s in Sport and Recreation Leadership. Reid is originally from Concord, North Carolina, and his father played CB in the NFL.
JC: As a 247 Sports two-star recruit, you had plenty of offers coming out of high school. What stood out about JMU?
QR: It reminded me of my hometown. For the most part, I enjoyed the environment. Everyone is friendly here, and I love nature. Nature is something that’s relaxing to me and good for my mental health, and that is something I want. Football is a mental game, and you have to be able to get away from it. I also looked at the school’s academics, as I know football won’t last forever.
JC: Coming out of high school, you were a SAF and HB. Could you talk a bit about balancing both positions?
QR: When I first started playing high school football, all I wanted to do was be an HB because it was in my genes to play HB. However, when I started going to camps, the coaches wanted me to play safety. Once I learned what the coaches were looking for and got the reps at safety, I was able to take that back for my senior year of high school. It wasn’t very hard balancing both positions as our schemes were very simple.
JC: Does having a background as an HB help you when you’re playing SAF?
QR: Yeah, it has allowed me to read gaps better. My coaches are always telling me, “Que, you play HB. You know how to see the gaps.”
JC: JMU was one of the biggest storylines in college football after transitioning from the CAA to the Sun Belt. Could you talk about being in that national spotlight, getting college gameday, and being a part of that special team?
QR: It was amazing. All my life, I told myself I wanted to be a part of history. We made our name well known, and we had an amazing season. I feel it was something that we will all look back on and remember forever. These guys are my brothers forever.
JC: What are you doing to prepare for the NFL Draft?
QR: As of right now, I’m training at school, but I have a team that I work with that sends me workouts. These workouts span lifting, sprinting, and broad and vertical jumps. I work with different coaches on different things.
JC: What current or past NFL player do you try to model your game after?
QR: In my senior year, when I was around 18, I started truly working on being a safety. I started to model my game after Brian Dawkins and Sean Taylor. It was more so Brian Dawkins, as he was a Christian man who loved football. Dawkins gave glory to God while playing, and that’s the best thing you can do because without God, you don’t have any of the talent.
JC: What would you like Fans, GMs, and Teams to know about you?
QR: I’m an only child, so I make a lot of friends. My friends are who I call family. I want people to know I’m going to bring a lot of energy and always have a smile on my face. They’re getting a high-quality guy who loves the game. I love being in the sports environment, and that’s why it’s my major. I love to play video games, and I stream on Twitch. I also love movies. I can’t wait for the new Planet of the Apes and King Kong.
JC: What is your favorite movie of all time?
QR: Transformers every time! All of the Transformers are great movies, and I can watch every one of them.
JC: What is your go-to game to stream on Twitch?
QR: For the most part, I play 2k, and I’m a walking bucket.
JC: If a teammate hands you the aux cord to pump up the locker room, what song are you picking?
QR: Wipe me down by Booise. You can’t go wrong with it because everyone’s going to be singing along.
JC: Do you have any pre-game rituals?
QR: I jog around to the other end zone and say my prayers. Then, I came back to warm up with Coach Whitley. Then, I’ll look over the playbook a bit to look over the small details. After that, it’s straight headphones.
JC: What is your favorite cheat meal?
QR: I got to go with the Southern Mill Grandma fried chicken with Mac and Cheese and cornbread.
JC: Why should an NFL team take a chance on Que Reid?
QR: Take a chance on me because I’m a guy who will give you everything you want. I’m very focused, and I’m very locked in. I love football, and I come from a football family. I have the knowledge and skills to play at the next level. At the end of the day, you’re getting humble, respectful, and loving guy.
