New England Patriots continue to build coaching staff after hiring Dont’a Hightower

Written by Karver Jordan

Over the last couple of days Eliot Wolf the director of player personnel and the rest of New England’s front office made great hires for the Offense and Defense coaching staff:

Ben McAdoo has been hired to be the team’s Senior Offensive Assistant, McAdoo is a well respected Offensive Coach. McAdoo helped the struggling New York Giants Offense in 2014, he helped the team become the 13th-best passing attack, the following year he helped the team become the 6th-best offense in 2015.

McAdoo is a respected QB Analyst, he sees talent in QB he had Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson both higher than Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold in the 2018 NFL Draft.

T.C. McCartney, 34,  a young and solid QB Coach, is now joining the Patriots staff. TC McCartney is a former LSU QB.

McCartney is a coach who has been learning under some of the best coaches in the game now, 49ers Kyle Shannon. McCartney was an offensive assistant for the 49ers, the 34-year old coach learned some positive traits under Shannon.

The Denver Broncos hired McCartney to be the team’s QB Coach in 2019. The stint was short lived but it gave the young coach more opportunity moving forward in his career.

McCartney was on the Cleveland Browns from 2020-23 where he would serve as an Offensive Assistant and a TE Coach. McCartney helped Browns’ Tight End David Njoku record 81 receptions, 882 yards, and six touchdowns. Njoku took a huge step in the right direction under Alex Van Pelt and T.C. McCartney coaching styles. Now Van Pelt is the OC for New England, McCartney returns back to being a QB Coach.

Scott Peters a former Offensive Lineman and a former Offensive Line Assistant coach for the Cleveland Browns now joins the Patriots to be the teams OLine Coach. Peters has only been an NFL Coach for 3 years but is a great coach. Peters helped the Browns have a decent OLine despite all the injuries the team had.

Jerry Montgomery, one of the best Defensive Lineman coaches in the league coming over from the Green Bay Packers is becoming the Patriots next defensive line coach. Montgomery has been a defensive line coach for the majority of his career, New England is getting one of the best.

Robert Kugler, a former Offensive lineman for the Buffalo Bills and Offensive line assistant coach is now joining the New England Patriots coaching staff. Kugler is a very well respected young coach at only 31-years old. Kugler is yet to be named to a position group but is expected to be working on the Offensive side of the ball.

Dont’a Hightower, a name the New England Patriots are very comfortable with. The 3-time Super Bowl champion Linebacker is making his return to New England to be a Linebacker coach. Hightower played nine NFL Seasons with New England. The 33-year old coach recorded 569 total tackles, 27 sacks, five fumble recoveries, and an interception over the course of nine years. Jerod Mayo once said if he ever got the chance to run his own ship, Dont’a Hightower is someone he would reach out to. Now the former linebacker makes his return as a coach instead of a player.

Drew Wilkins, a young coach who already has multiple years of experience under his resume. Wilkins has coached for the New York Giants and Baltimore Ravens over the course of his career. He served most of his time as a OLB Coach, Patriots OLB Matt Judon was a two-time Pro Bowler while Wilkins was his coach. The 38-year old coach will work with the Linebackers alongside with Hightower.
