Texas LB Jaylan Ford would like to be a Dallas Cowboy

Texas linebacker Jaylan Ford – a native of Frisco, Texas, just outside of Dallas – said it would be very meaningful to return to his hometown as a Cowboy. The 6-foot-3 linebacker said he had an informal meeting with the Cowboys at the Combine.

“I met with them briefly,” Ford said. “We talked about my film, being intelligent, and what type of defense they’re running. It would mean a lot.  It would be interesting for sure.  Being a hometown kid, it would definitely be a dream come true.”

Ford said to be a good linebacker, one must have a variety of moves, but a special go-to move, especially when playing in the pros and getting around some of the best interior linemen in football’s top league. He studies Demario Davis and Lavonte David as two players he tries to emulate. He prefers the cross-chop.

“You gotta work your counter,” Ford said.  “But that all starts at practice.  It starts with preparation and understanding when that moment presents itself, how you’re going to handle it.”

Ford added that Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian has done a masterful job of building the Texas Longhorns into one of college football’s top programs.

“We’ve been able to turn that program around,” Ford said.  “I think it’s only ‘up’ from here.  It will give confidence to the guys who are coming under us.  I’m really excited.”
