Player Summary:
Re-al Mitchell is an all-purpose offensive weapon with a well-constructed frame, an athletic & muscular build, and a powerful lower half. He is a physical downhill runner with strong contact balance and play strength to shed tackles at all ranges of the field. His robust build allows him to absorb contact, break tackles, and pick up yards after contact in bunches. He operates with solid patience to provide time for blocks to develop and hits the hole with instant burst/acceleration. Displays proficient twitch and prominent long speed when he breaks into the second level. As a receiver Mitchell flashes quality ball skills and dependable hands-catching ability at all three levels. He tracks the ball much cleaner than anticipated and adjusts to the ball decently to remain competitive at the catch point. He exhibits dynamic playmaking ability with the ball in his hands, using his high-level play speed & elusiveness to extend short receptions into explosive plays. Additionally, he offers the position versatility to stretch the defense from multiple alignments. While he is still developing as an intermediate route runner, his athletic ability and football intelligence should alleviate the learning curve at the next level. He possesses a valuable pass-catching skill set for the running back position but will need some time to improve as a pass blocker if he transitions to running back full-time. Mitchell also has the toughness and competitiveness to compete for playing time on kickoff & punt coverage early at the next level.
Scheme Fit:
Although Mitchell could see snaps at slot receiver, his highest upside is at the Running Back spot. His skill set ranslates best to a spread system that works to get the defense into light boxes and utilizes running backs as legitimate threats in the passing game.
Power Statement:
Mitchell is a game-breaking talent whose athleticism, play speed, size, and position versatility should help him garner interest from teams looking for an all-purpose sleeper in the late round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
