What made you decide you wanted to be a football player?
Growing up around football players, a couple of my family members played in the NFL and just playing football and building team chemistry and I’m still friends with guys I played with like a brotherhood and I fell in love with the game.
What are your favorite moments from your football life?
Running out of the tunnel freshman year at Colorado State against Colorado at the Denver Broncos Stadium, seeing my family in the stands support me when I was at Colorado State. Caught my first pick against Stephen F Austin against Xavier Gipson and my first touchdown was a scoop n’ score against Morgan State.
What are you looking to achieve as a football player going forward?
All my personal goals I had growing up, better my family’s situation and my niece and nephews situation and be successful in the NFL and give my family financial flexibility.
If you could hang out with any football player past or present for a day who and why?
Troy Polamalu or Sean Taylor, 2 safeties who knew how to play the game and see what there personalities are off the field and soak up information from them about the situations they were in and just try to learn from them and follow their lead and see what made them stand out and what their mentality was like.
Which one of your family members inspires you the most and why?
My mom, she made a lot of sacrifices for me growing up so I could be in a better position and she allowed me to get a degree and she inspired me to get what I need done. Seeing her get up everyday and go to work just to make me and my brother’s life better and she had that drive to make our lives better and that’s what inspires me the most.
What is your favorite defensive scheme and why?
4-2-5, there’s more defensive backs on the field and I can play in the box or go out and cover and we can stop the run with 4 down linemen and I make most of my plays in the 4-2-5 and you never know what we are doing because of the amount of defensive backs on the field trying to show the same look.
What should we know about Malcolm Magee the person?
I’m very self driven and dedicated to what I do until I finish what I need to, getting a great football player because I can play offense, defense or special teams, 10 out of 10 times I’ll give you my all. Very passionate about the game and you can’t take the dog out of me something about when I put that helmet on and go onto the field. Very respectful, humble, and I always put others before me and I’ll push others to the maximum and always am chasing greatness.
What stands out about your film the most?
There are no balls being caught on me and I don’t usually get targets on me. I have some PBUs and a lot of tackling and special teams and running sideline to sideline and my opponents didn’t really throw my way onto my island, just out of respect my opponents who to try and who not to try.
How do you handle challenges both in life and on the football field?
In life going to God first and then give it time and patience and let God do what he needs to and it will be a lesson learned. On the football field I have short term memory and take it 1 day and 1 play at a time and if it’s something out of control I just give it to God and let him handle it and give it time and focus on what’s important.
What would a team get in a player like you?
100 percent, every play, every snap, a humble guy on and off the football field, a good student on and off the football field and a very coachable player with a high IQ who doesn’t talk back to coaches and knows how he can come back from adversity. Great student and coachable brother who loves the game and a hungry ball player who’s willing to do whatever it takes to make a team.
What do you love the most about the game of football?
I love the competitive nature going against great teams and I love the offseason grind and I love making plays and love putting work in and see the results happen. Also I love the chemistry with coaches and how they teach me to read routes and the behind the scenes stuff and love waking up a 5 AM in the morning with teammates putting blood, sweat and tears in.
Who is the most underrated player you’ve played with and why?
In high school I would say Ethan Ramsey, he was a great teammate and he didn’t have the size to get to division one but he was a great player and growing up playing with him in high school was fun but I’d take him over people who played division one his talent was unmatched.
