New England Patriots hire Jerod Mayo as Head Coach
Written by Karver Jordan
Just one day later after Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots went their separate ways, Robert Kraft made up his mind and hired Jerod Mayo, the former linebacker coach who has been in the Patriots system as a coach for nearly five years.
The former Patriot linebacker is the first black head coach in New England Patriot history and the 15th head coach out of the existence of the franchise.
Mayo played eight seasons with the New England Patriots as a linebacker, the former tenth overall pick of the 2008 Draft went on to have an exceptional career recording 803 total tackles (537 solo – 266 Assist), 11 sacks, eight forced fumbles, three interceptions, and 19 pass breakups.
Mayo being 37 years old makes him the youngest head coach in the whole NFL.
Robert Kraft and Jerod Mayo will now be on the lookout for their next general manager.
