Player Summary:
Slot receiver with undersized height/weight measurements, a slender frame, and a slight build. Recorded 161 Rec, 2,513 Rec Yds (12.5 YPR), and 20 Rec TD in 43 career games between Alabama State and New Mexico. Exhibits great initial quickness, acceleration, and play speed off the LOS. A high FBI route runner who uses pre-snap alignment and leverage to create natural separation at the top of the route against man and zone coverages. Generates requisite separation at the break with quality stop-start ability and burst. Could afford to be more physical at the first level to avoid hands and take advantage of free releases off the ball. His route tree is somewhat finite, but he shows the ability to threaten defenses at the three levels. Flashes proficient long speed to create separation on vertical concepts to the deep range. Able to change tempos on double moves to beat and stack DBs at the third level. Most dangerous on out-breaking intermediate routes to the boundary. Willingly attacks the MOF with good toughness and concentration to reel in tough catches in traffic. Operates with competitive ball skills and prominent hands-catching ability. He compensates for his limited height/weight measurements with capable leaping ability and sharp body control at the catch point. Adjusts fluidly to any ball thrown in his vicinity and snatches the ball confidently through contact. Proven playmaker with considerable twitch and elusiveness with the ball in his hands. Boasts some special teams versatility as a return specialist but has limited experience in that area of his game.
Scheme Fit:
Slot receiver in an offensive system that emphasizes a vertical passing game
Power Statement:
Hixon is an under-valued receiver with high-level ball skills, notable play speed, and the necessary athletic tools to find success in the slot at the next level.
