What made you decide you wanted to be a football player?
I was sitting in front of the TV watching the Super Bowl with my family when I was in 4th grade and I told myself one day I’m going to play in one.
What are your favorite moments from your football life?
Some of my favorite moments were my change from WR to CB in HS, my first college interception, and playing against Nebraska because I started at a D2 down the road from them.
What are you looking to achieve as a football player going forward?
I really want to establish a title of an all around corner. I want to be able to make tackles from the outside, and I want to be a lockdown corner everywhere. There’s a very select few corners who can really do it all, and I want to be that corner.
If you could hang out with any football player past or present for a day who and why?
Brian Dawkins because he was such a passionate beast about football nobody could mess with that man. He wasn’t called Weapon X for no reason.
Which one of your family members inspires you the most and why?
My father because he’s very hardworking and dedicated to his work. He came over from Africa and built his life here from the ground up. I’ve seen him be able to support our family through whatever and never fold.
What is your favorite defensive scheme and why?
I like playing in a 4-3 or 4-2-5 defense because a lot of blitzes can be sent. It’s a good thing when the ball is coming out fast because of the pressure. The QBs and WRs timing is off which allows the backend to make plays on the ball.
What should we know about Gabriel Amegatcher the person?
I’m very passionate and persistent about the things of my life. When it comes to God, family, football and just bettering myself everyday I’m dedicated to it. I don’t allow people to tell me I can’t do something. If I set my mind and heart on a goal, I’m going to achieve it. I love trying to self improve and hold myself to as high of a standard as I possibly can because that’s what God called me to do.
What stands out about your film the most?
My size and physicality at corner. I can guard anywhere from smaller WRs to bigger TEs and can tackle.
How do you handle challenges both in life and on the football field?
I take it to God, then I control what I can control.
What would a team get in a player like you?
A disciplined pure athlete. I have a lot of physical abilities that help me in my game. I have relentless energy and effort. I pursue being the best football player I can be day in and day out.
What do you love the most about the game of football?
What I love most is that you gotta be able to be athletic and smart on the field. It’s a complicated game, but you have to understand how to make it simple and slow it down. It’s a challenging man’s game. You gotta have heart because you’ll be tested day in and day out.
Who is the most underrated player you’ve played with and why?
Raishein Thomas on NIU’s D-Line. He had the most tackles and TFLs on our squad this year. He don’t say too much, but he always comes in ready to work.
