The New England Patriots have promoted 34-year-old DeMarcus Covington to the Defensive Coordinator Role according to Albert Breer.  

Jerod Mayo and the front office has been very busy looking to replace the vacant Defensive Coordinator role that was left after Bill Belichick and the Patriots parted ways, Covington is the first official named DC for the Patriots since the 2017 season. 

DeMarcus Covington is a former Samford University wide receiver, Covington would record 62 receptions for 586 yards and two touchdowns; Now the former Samford Bulldog is the new Patriots defensive coordinator. 

Covington has coached for the teams below: 

UAB Blazers, Graduate Assistant  (2012)

Ole Miss, Defensive Graduate Assistant (2013 – 2014) 

UT Martin, Defensive Line Coach (2015) 

Eastern Illinois, Co-Defensive Coordinator and Defensive Line Coach (2016) 

New England Patriots, Coaching Assistant (2017-2018) 

New England Patriots, Outside Linebacker Coach (2019) 

New England Patriots, Defensive Line Coach (2020- 2023) 

New England Patriots, Defensive Coordinator (2024)
