What made you decide you wanted to be a football player?
Growing up in a small Nebraska town football means a lot, the whole town comes together to support the football team and I knew from a young age that football meant something. I knew it was special, and I wanted to be a part of it.
What are your favorite moments from your football life?
My favorite moment from football was when we won in overtime against Saint Ambrose, it had rained the night before and in the morning before the game. The field was terrible by halftime. The field was more mud than grass, it was super humid and we were sliding around everywhere. The entire team came together to win a game we weren’t supposed to be in and it was Judson’s first win in program history. Getting your school’s first win with guys who will be your friends forever is a special feeling.
What are you looking to achieve as a football player going forward?
I understand that after college nothing is guaranteed when it comes to football. I want to
continue to work on becoming a better football player, help my team win and do what it takes for that to happen. I want to be a leader and give inspiration to others to chase their own dreams whatever that may be.
If you could hang out with any football player past or present for a day, who and why?
Kurt Warner for sure. Hearing his story and watching videos about the greatest show on
turf I think it would be super cool to meet and learn from him.
Which one of your family members inspires you the most and why?
My mom Carol. Well technically she’s my step mom but ever since I was little she has treated me like I was her own. I wouldn’t be where I am without her. She has always believed in me and loved me my entire life.
What is your favorite offensive scheme and why?
I want to run the ball. I like to run counter or inside zone and power. My favorite thing is
to pull and create a hole for my running back to score, I want to control the speed of the
game.
What should we know about Tyler Silverstrand?
I’ve made some dumb decisions in my life but I have grown since then. I have worked hard on and off the field to grow as a player and as a person. I continue to better myself and become the son and brother I need to be. In my own personal life I stick to myself I spend time with my family and continue to work on getting better at football.
What stands out about your film the most?
That I want to finish blocks and that I am able to play multiple positions on the field to help my team. Another thing you are able to see is that even though I am aggressive I keep my head in games and do not get penalties that hurt my team, that is something my Head Coach Quintin Demps teaches us to be a dog between the whistle but be smart.
How do you handle challenges both in life and on the football field?
I work to stay calm and work on being able to control what I can and find a solution. I use my mind rather than my emotions to be able to come up with a way to have a positive outcome from the problem. Every game you have to be able to adapt to new unexpected challenges to win.
What would a team get in a player like you?
Someone who’s going to work hard everyday and continue to improve and be able to adapt to the speed of the next level. I am a team player and want to win. Every team has a role for each player and I will do my part and work to better the team. I can also play multiple positions on the offensive line and can play at whatever position is needed.
What do you love the most about the game of football?
Being able to go out with my teammates and achieve our goals. Every year is a new team, and there is a group of guys who do not know each other that have to work together to win from the coaches to the players, if they do not work together you cannot win and that’s what makes it special.
Who is the most underrated player you’ve played with and why?
My buddy Bmac or Brandon Mackey. He’s a strong running back who can make people miss
with his moves or his overall speed and can run people over. He’s super hard to bring down
because he is so strong and he’s a good teammate overall.
