Player Summary:

Mike Katic is a 5th-year senior OG who has been a mainstay on the Indiana OL since 2020. He aligns as the LG for Indiana and has also made 4 starts at center. Possesses marginal height and good weight for the position with a wide torso and a well-built lower half. Shows great mental processing ability in all assets of the game; processes slants, stunts, and blitzes quickly, and picks up his designated defender without hesitation. Gets off the ball with low pad level to get underneath his target. When latching on, shows a powerful punch to create knockback on contact. Notable functional strength to lock out and overpower DL with his sizable frame. Solid in zone blocking schemes as he latches on to defenders and able to slide down the LOS with quality lateral agility and square hips. When climbing to the 2nd level, will punch and shove 1st level defenders showing up in his path to help his teammates maintain leverage. Good in gap schemes where he utilizes his strength to knock defenders off their run-fit and open up the designated hole for the RB. When DL cross his face, he engages and washes them down the LOS. In pass protection, keeps his head on a swivel and is always looking for work. An adequate athlete whose lack of foot quickness hurts him in a few areas. Consistently shoots his hands outside and exposes his chest. Often lowers his head on contact and doesn’t see what he’s hitting. Adequate COD when leveraging 2nd-level defenders in the run game. Marginal in pass protection; heavy-footed in his pass set which allows him to get beat with speed and polished pass rush moves. Must gain more depth and prevent himself from lunging on engagement. Gets walked back vs. power rush moves as he allows DL to get their hands inside. Many deficiencies are technique-based and can be fixed.

Scheme Fit

Fits best as an iOL at the next level who plays best in gap run schemes.

Power Statement

An experienced, powerful iOL who wins in the run game with functional strength, power on engagement, and a quick processor to stalemate and drive DL out of their run fit. Adequate athleticism hinders his potential, and he must build a habit of shooting his hands inside on contact. Must improve his footwork and overall technique in pass protection to defeat NFL-caliber pass rushers.
