Player Summary:

Transferred from Louisville in 2022. Has good height and a good solid frame that allows him to be played more than just in the slot. Physical blocker at the POA. Shows ability to block up field, crash down at the LOS, and block out of the backfield. Smooth route-runner. Not a super quick first step off the ball but, DBs typically don’t press against him. Creates good separation. Comes out of his breaks smooth, doesn’t look fast but can accelerate and get in and out of his breaks at the drop of a dime. Never gives the secondary any indicators on what he’s about to do upfield. Speed out, Comeback, Seam, and Post tend to be his go-to route tree in this offense. Good ability to track the ball and has Good hands catching contested catches and in-space. Ability to break off routes and show his numbers when QB is under pressure. Can take the top off of a defense and has body balance to make the tough sideline catches. Also can be a return threat on special teams.

Scheme Fit:
SL-WR

Power Statement:
Watkins is a solid multi-dimensional slot receiver that creates good separation and can be physical as a blocker and as possession receiver.
