Player Summary:
Sixth-year Tight End with requisite height/weight measurements, broad arm length, and an athletic, well-developed build with room to add mass to his frame. Exhibits reliable ball skills and strong hands-catching ability through contact. Highly competitive on contested catches and 50/50 balls; Uses long arms and secure hands to beat defensive backs at the catch point. Sharp ball tracking and hand-eye coordination to fluidly adjust to vertical shots downfield. Displays ideal toughness and contact balance to pick up YAC with the ball in his hands. Flashes proficient route running ability and an expansive route tree. Boasts natural instincts and high FBI to locate soft spots in zone coverage. Can operate as an in-line Y Tight End or a FLEX TE lined up in the slot. Adequate initial quickness and release off the LOS. Deficient acceleration/burst within the first five yards, but picks up ample straight-line speed to threaten the second and third levels. Sufficient COD and body control to create separation at the top of the route. Quality pass blocker in max protection. Capable run blocker with good hand + hat placement and punch location. Has an alert radar to locate targets on short and long pulls along the LOS. He keeps his elbows tight and uses his length & strong hands to create a stalemate at the POA. His slender lower half and decent lower-body play strength translate to medial knockback. Does not move defenders off the spot consistently, but has a constant willingness to serve as an interior run blocker.
Scheme Fit:
FLEX TE with primary pass-catching responsibilities
Power Statement:
Torres is a long, rangy receiving tight end with noteworthy ball skills, significant route running acumen, and keen instincts to find openings against soft zone coverage.
