8th grade star tight end Bernell James in New Orleans shot and killed, just 14-years-old
Bernell James had a bright future and hoped to one day play for the New Orleans Saints in the NFL.
Unfortunately, his life was taken at the age of 14. He was shot and killed this week.
At 5:20 p.m., New Orleans police responded to a call of a shot person in the 14700 block of Chef Menteur Highway. They found Bernell James suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency Medical Services pronounced him dead on the scene.
His school is now retiring his number—56—in the wake of the 14-year-old boy’s tragic death.
Bernell also known as (BJ) was a member of the Kipp Morial football team which led to the championship. He loved music and also was a member of The Roots of Music and Kipp Morial’s marching band.
His sister Jarnesha, started a GoFundMe page to help with funeral costs.
