Player Summary:
Four-year starter with strong height/weight measurements and a sizable frame & build. Possesses excellent QB mechanics, footwork, and a quick, high release. Maintains concise, rhythmic footwork while operating from a strong, balanced base. His consistent footwork, balanced base, and quick release provide high-level ball accuracy to all three levels, most notably to the short and intermediate ranges. Confidently drives the ball to the MOF on in-breaking timing routes against zone coverage. Shows a tendency to float the ball when attempting to layer throws over second-level defenders, but not enough to warrant heavy concern. Boasts substantial arm strength and velocity to deliver the ball from hash to hash. Exhibits top-end ball placement when targeting out-breaking timing routes toward the sideline (speed out, bench, comeback, etc.). Has capable arm strength when targeting the deep range of the field but compensates with great placement and touch. He can make every throw on the field and has no limitations from an arm talent standpoint. Displays full command of Scott Isphording’s offense at Ohio. Uses high FBI to identify advantageous matchups pre-snap and works to sustain long drives by emphasizing ball control and security. Remains tough, composed, and poised within a condensed pocket. Keeps his eyes downhill consistently when scanning the field from the pocket or on the move. Will hold and move defensive backs with his eyes to manipulate coverages. Appears more accurate when on schedule in the pocket but flashes quality pocket awareness, mobility, and elusiveness to escape pressure and complete passes out of structure. Offers sneaky athleticism and mobility when extending plays outside the pocket. Rourke is a willing, effective, and savvy runner but is not a burner by any means. Appears to have lost some explosiveness after suffering a torn ACL at the end of the 2022 season.
