Player Summary:
A transfer from OHST playing there from 2018 to 2021 an experienced player at the LB position. Came to OHTO in 2022 and started and led the defense in tackles. Quickly became the captain of the OHTO defense. Gant has a stocky, muscular, athletic body that is built for the position. He is in between average and above-average NFL size for an ILB as well as an OLB. Gant plays as a strongside and inside LB position showing versatility in his game. This is also indicative of him being agile, especially in zone coverage defending the curl/hook, flat routes. Displays average lateral movement with average speed from tackle to tackle in the box against run plays. Shows solid effort and alertness in run and pass defensive coverage. In run defense, he tends to catch blocks when contact is initiated by OL, his feet are stagnant, and attempts to shed blocks only using his upper body with limited foot movement. Inconsistent hand placement on OL which is a marginal technique. Not a thumper on the inside between tackles shows more of a read-and-react style of LB play when seeing run. Solid tackler displays quality leverage when initiating contact with the ball carrier and following through. Durable LB plays a great deal of snaps as well as showing his physical prowess.
Scheme Fit:
4-2, Over/Under front, 3-4
Power Statement:
A legitimate LB prototype can play the SAM, MIKE, and WILL position. Can be effective on the next level, especially in zone coverage. Improvement in bringing feet through a tackle and or block to stabilize the offensive momentum of the play is an upside.
