Are the New England Patriots tanking? Patriots lose 34-0 vs the New Orleans Saints

Written by Karver Jordan

After the 34-0 loss vs the New Orleans Saints, it is time to ask the question: Are the New England Patriots tanking? Or Are the Patriots just really bad?

Personally, I think New England is tanking for a new franchise QB. The Mac Jones experiment has seemed to have fizzled out, it is time to open a new door that leads to more opportunities. Here are some of Karver Jordan’s thoughts post the loss.

There was nothing that stood out from the loss vs the Saints, except for Kyle Dugger and JC Jackson. Both defensive backs did a good job on defense, that’s the only positive from this game. Let’s take a look at what the Patriots NEED to improve.

The Patriots looked pretty well the first four games of the season but besides that… New England is playing like the worst team in the WHOLE NFL.

Right now the Patriots are looking to be in the TOP FIVE in the NFL Draft. I am all for it. If taking a generational talent will help this franchise fight for another Superbowl, I am all for it. The 2024 Draft is loaded with QBs who have the potential to be good QBs in this league however, New England is going to need to rebuild the whole offensive line.

Bill Belichick will need to pay some offensive linemen this off-season IF he wants a chance at one final Superbowl under his belt. There are a few players this offseason that deserve another chance. Those players are JuJu Smith-Schuster, Mike Gesicki, Tyquan Thornton, Kendrick Bourne, Ezekiel Elliott, and Rhamondre Stevenson. Smith-Schuster, Gesicki, Bourne, and Thornton have had limited chances to do anything due to bad QB play. A fresh start at QB may be better for them, Maybe a new playcaller? We need to see how the season progresses.

Defensively, New England needs to get younger on the defensive line. The Patriots need a stronger and faster defensive line to stop the run. Other than that New England needs to just keep getting better depth pieces, Defense is not the weakness to this team.

Patriots are expected to have 60 million + in Cap Space in 2024

Whoever that is, the GM needs to spend that money, spread it out equally, and pay players fairly.

Free Agency Plan – Cap Room Standing

I am all for paying solid weapons and not getting into a bidding war that will lead to overpaying.

-A Good QB from this draft who has solid weapons to throw too will get us to winning football again.

-Personally, I think our defense is solid when FULLY healthy. Young talented players everywhere who are developing.

-Our offensive line needs to be reworked. Keep Cole Strange, Michael Onwenu, and David Andrews. (Target O-Line in FA/Draft) Late round Gems.
