New England defeated the Buffalo Bills in the final seconds | The Patriots won 29-25
Written by Karver Jordan
The New England Patriots went into this game 1-5 and no one believed in them, but that wouldn’t stop them going against the 4-2 Buffalo Bills. New England would get the win in the final seconds, the New England Patriots are now 2-5. Here are a few things that stood out in the victory.
Offensive Line improved
The Patriots Offensive line went through some changes ahead of this game, Mike Onwenu was back this week and played right tackle – Onwenu is originally a Guard but due to Vederian Lowe’s struggles Adrian Klemm the Patriots Offensive line coach thought it would be time to make a switch. The switch would pan out, the Offensive line was doing great in Pass Pro, and the rushing attack. Rookie Guard Sidy Sow and Second Year Guard Cole Strange both did a good job picking up blitzing linebackers and did a phenomenal job at pulling. David Andrews the Patriots Center did a good job being the leader of the young group. Trent Brown played very well on Mac Jones blindside.
Offensive Line improvements lead to the Rushing Attack being strong again:
Both Patriot Running backs Rhamondre Stevenson and Ezekiel Elliott did their job on the ground. Rhamondre Stevenson would have nine carries for 34 yards with a 3.8 yards per carry average. Fellow running back Ezekiel Elliott would show up on the goal line getting his second touchdown of the season, Elliott would finish the day with 11 carries for 31 yards and a touchdown, and the veteran back recorded a 2.8-yard per carry average.
Is Mac Jones back?
The young quarterback has been getting a lot of hate due to his bad play on the field, it is understandable but Jones had arguably one of his best games of his young career vs the Buffalo Bills. Mac Jones completed 25 of his 30 passing attempts for 272 yards and two touchdowns, Mac led a game-winning drive, his first since 2021 (Rookie Season).
Mac Jones and his weapons:
Kendrick Bourne: Six receptions for 63 yards and a touchdown. -KB Showed up vs the Buffalo Bills.
Demario “Pop” Douglas: Four receptions for 54 yards, one rush for 20 (Jet Sweep), and a punt return for 25 yards. – Pop Douglas played a huge role in this Patriots win. He gained a lot of starter reps.
Rhamondre Stevenson: Six receptions for 51 yards (Stevenson set up the Patriots for a game-winning drive with a HUGE catch and run)
Pharaoh Brown: Two receptions for 51 yards. – Bill Belichick found a secret weapon in the veteran tight end.
Hunter Henry: Two Receptions for 27 yards. – Mac Jones’ safety blanket came in clutch near the end of the game.
Mike Gesicki: Two receptions for five yards and a touchdown (Game winner).
This Patriot Offensive will look to continue the momentum against the Miami Dolphins.
Patriots Defense:
The New England Patriots Defense did a phenomenal job stopping Josh Allen from exiting the pocket and creating trouble with his legs. New England struggled at open-field tackling, however, they showed up when they needed to. Gaining Jack Jones back was huge, Jones played a good game. Jabrill Peppers and Kyle Dugger are a great safety duo, both of the hard-hitting safeties played great.
Here a few players who shined in the Matchup:
-Christian Barmore the young defensive lineman created pressure on almost every play. Barmore had one of the best games of his young career.
-Anfernee Jennings played a great game and recorded six total tackles.
-Kyle Dugger led the team in solo tackles with seven.
-JC Jackson was locked down vs Stefon Diggs, great to have the shutdown, Cornerback.
-Ja’Whaun Bentley was a huge part of the New England Defense, the young linebacker had nine total tackles.
-Jabrill Peppers must retire a Patriot, the Hard-hitting safety is everywhere it feels like, Peppers had eight total tackles and an interception.
Karver’s Final Thoughts:
This New England Patriots team showed out vs one of the better teams in the NFL, the path doesn’t get easy after this one. New England will be facing off against a Miami Dolphins team that is looking to bounce back after their Sunday Night Loss vs the Eagles. New England played very well, I expect this team to continue to play like this throughout the next few weeks and the remainder of the season.
