Player Summary:

Senior.  Transferred from Yale; graduated with a double major in economics and political science.  Starts at LG.  Good height; a little overweight but can be fixed in an NFL strength program.  Starts at guard, has also played center, and has also played OT at Yale.  Average run blocker and average pass protector with adequate bend.  Plays with strong effort which covers many of his flaws.  As a run blocker, he is average.  Has a quick first step and flashes ability to fire forward at the second level.  Good puller who can move and run in space, and runs his feet on contact. Below-average balance is a key problem in both phases of the game – is on the ground a little too much.  Will lunge in his posture and overextend instead of staying square and sitting on a stool.  Is a good puller but struggles to latch onto second level defenders and drive them off the ball.  Gets good vertical movement around the goal line.  In pass protection he is average.  Good first step, strong instincts – keeps his head on a swivel and is continually looking for someone to block.  Can handle twists/stunts.  Flashes a good pass set with a wide base and ability to mirror rushers.  Struggles v. inside slanting rushers and is susceptible to counters.  Will sometimes get walked back into the pocket, questionable anchor strength.  Plays with good effort.  Earned a toughness award at Yale.

Power Statement:

Lack of balance and hand use are quibbles with Nick’s ability on film.  If he fixes these, he can be a valuable prospect.  His foot speed, toughness and effort are all strong qualities that he brings to the game.  He is also intellectually smart coming from an Ivy League school.
