Player Summary:
5th YR SR and backup at DB where he aligns as a FS and Nickel CB in the 3-3-5 Nickel defense of TXCU. He possesses adequate height, poor weight and good speed with an athletic build. He is a decent athlete showing a combination of good explosiveness, solid balance, lateral quickness and agility with average acceleration and adequate COD with average top end play speed. He is solid against the run. He shows solid FBI as he quickly keys and diagnoses the play, exhibits good instincts taking the correct angle in pursuit with solid range and closing speed. He squares his shoulders and exhibits good explosiveness as he makes the tackle on RB with average size and AA on both inside and outside runs. In coverage he is average. He patrols his zone with solid AA while reading the QB. He is a good open field tackler as he plays with good form and explosiveness as he makes the tackle on WR with ordinary play speed in his zone as well as in off-man. He exhibits solid mental toughness as he elevates his play in the 4th qtr in close games. Ordinary play strength prevents him from quickly disengaging from run blocks from TE with good size and physical toughness. He exhibits adequate ball skills as he struggles to consistently locate the ball and use his hands to disrupt the trajectory of the pass allowing WR with solid hands to make the catch. He displays tight hips while backpedaling in off-man. Lack of elite COD enables WR with good hip fluidity to separate on slant and dig routes. Ordinary awareness in zone prevents him from consistently keeping WR in his periphery allowing WR with good FBI to find the soft spot and make the catch in his zone. He exhibits adequate ability to recover if beaten in man coverage due to a lack of quality play speed and AA.
Scheme Fit:
SS due to his solid ability against the run.
Power Statement:
Explosive, intelligent player who is solid against the run and is a good open field tackler. His lack of quality AA and play speed prevent him from maximizing his potential in coverage against intelligent WR with good route running ability and play speed.
