Player Summary:
Jahmal Banks is an RS JR from Washington, DC. Dual-sport athlete in high school that lettered in both football and basketball. He was voted Preseason All-ACC first team by Athlon Sports and third team by Phil Steele for the 2023 season. He was awarded All-ACC honorable mention after the 2022 season. Banks primarily aligns outside as the X WR in Wake Forest’s “Slow Mesh” RPO offense. He possesses elite size and solid weight with a frame that should be able to add muscle at the next level. Appears to have excellent length with long arms and legs. Banks displays natural hands along with great body control, and he consistently displays a very good ability to make tough, contested catches. He has an exceptional catch radius and shows the ability to make catches on balls thrown outside his body. Displays good AA. He has a long stride and eats space quickly, especially vs off-man and zone coverages. Displays solid straight-line speed and average acceleration. He is not a technical route runner and does not consistently create separation at the top of his routes. Struggles at times changing direction. Will round off routes, especially on in and out-breaking routes. He relies on his strength and big body to win the ball in the air. He displays a solid release off the LOS and shows decent ability to avoid being jammed. Banks also display good FBI and seem to understand coverages. He does a good job finding soft spots in the zone and shows he can be a possession WR across the middle. Is not a burner or a YAC WR. Will fight for extra yardage and does not usually go down on first contact. Banks is a serviceable blocker as a WR but does not sustain blocks for very long. Plays a very high percentage of snaps and runs hard.
Scheme Fit:
Outside WR
Power Statement:
Jahmal Banks is an experienced and productive WR with great size and length allowing him to be a weapon near the goal line. Inability to consistently create separation is concerning, but his body control and ability to make tough catches allow him to succeed.
