Player Summary:

Edefuan boasts a cut mesomorphic frame. He has a sturdy build, setting adequate measurements for his slotted ILB position. He lines up across the 2nd level and at the LOS to rush. He has an adequate NFL frame for his listed position. He is a crafty player who combines his balance and agility with quick UOH to shed blocks by extending and working around them, sniffing out the ball carrier. A linebacker who has a nose for the ball, he aggressively engages and halts TEs and RBs blocking from the LOS or backfield against power runs. With a solid COD, he bends and re-adjusts to mis-directs swiftly working around OL while keeping good awareness and getting his hands up when in pass rush. He carries these traits over in ST as he was twice recognized for his contributions (2022 Alamo Bowl, 2018 vs Oregon State). He uses good initial quickness and is very aggressive in downhill pursuit or lateral tracking against zone runs. In zone coverage, he quickly reaches his area and is effective when jamming TEs. He also is a capable man coverage defender against RBs out of the backfield, maintaining tight coverage. A dependable tackler in space, he gives little yards after contact, pursuing with good sideline to sideline speed. Edefuan does struggle with his ball skills when in coverage from mid-range and beyond. In zone coverage, he is adequate at breaking from the pedal to attack, with a matching closing burst. A major flaw is over-pursuit, leaving missed opportunities for Loss of Yard plays when lateral tracking as he flies to a given spot instead of stringing along the runner. This also leads him to get caught up in the muck, unable to stop the runner from bending around the corner, leading to explosive plays. His pass rushes are sufficient at best as bull rushes are altogether halted.

Power Statement:

Edefuan is a fluid, and dynamic player that has the flexibility to play in space, or in the tight quarters of the LB interior. While he would be gravely undersized, he would be able to spell at OLB in 4-3 or even 3-4 (sparingly). He is a contributor who can fight his way onto a roster from ST, and rotation, getting more playing time in year two.
