Player Summary:
Graduate transfer with a degree in Physics. Two-year starter for App State. Split time in 2022, is the teams’ primary MLB in 2023. Short for the position, but with a great weight. Stocky, thick, and filled-out frame. The body has the frame of an inside linebacker. Has plus tackling ability. Rarely allows broken tackles. Hits hard. Has the body control and flexibility to bend back towards the backs when he’s lost the angle, and has the strength to make the tackle anyway. Good ability to turn speed to power when rushing the passer. Is able to blow up smaller blockers when asked to rush the passer. Overall, carries a lot of power in his upper body. Shows a good motor and heart to always find himself around the ball, even on plays far from his original responsibility. At times against NCUN was lined up at almost safety depth, allowing him to excel at reading the play in front of him and go attack the ball.
Needs to get better at fighting off blocks; frequently gets washed out of running plays due to his inability to disengage from blockers. Has a tendency to overrun ball carriers and get out of position to make a solid tackle. Frequently bites hard on play action and gets out of position. Does not have the speed to recover when caught out of position. Occasionally used as a rusher, but does not have the requisite speed to be effective. Could be a tick quicker in his read-and-react ability. Shows poor COD skills, coming to a complete stop in the open field before adjusting and flowing again. Seldom asked to carry tight ends up the seam, likely due to insufficient speed.
Scheme Fit:
Run-stuffing linebacker in a 3-4 defense
Power Statement:
Strong inside linebacker who is solid against the run and a good tackler, but does not have the speed to be a sideline-to-sideline linebacker.
