Player Summary:

Redshirt Junior from LaGrange, Georgia. He was a vital part of the East Tennessee State defense the past 4 seasons and one of the best players in FCS before transferring to North Carolina. Marginal height, very good weight, and good arm length paired with solid AA. He displays good lateral quickness, solid hip fluidity, adequate acceleration, COD, and below average balance. Solid matching his footwork with the WR’s release at the LOS, he plays with good eye position and discipline maintaining his leverage with consistency. He uses good lateral quickness to stay in phase vs WR’s with solid play speed using both zone and man techniques. Good in coverage vs TE’s, he can succeed in different ways using a catch technique or getting in trail where he can rely on his athleticism and body position. Good in zone coverage as a flat defender as well as in a deep 1/3rd assignment, he is excellent at picking up the QB’s eyes and timing his breaks to make plays on the ball. Very good ball skills, he gets his eyes flipped around with exceptional timing and uses above-average length at his frame to get his hand between the WR’s. He has trustworthy hands and tracking ability, he high points throws with good timing to consistently make plays down the field and sideline. Solid ball carrier vision, he attacks open grass with above-average FBI when returning punts and INT’s. Good in run support, plays with good gap integrity and does not shy away from making plays in the box. He is an effective tackler, he takes adequate angles in space and has good hat position with solid play strength when wrapping up. Marginal vs shifty moves at the top of  In’s/Out’s and Posts from WR’s, he loses cushion quickly due to being flat-footed and cannot change direction quick enough to accelerate into a solid position.

Scheme Fit:

Slot CB in a Zone defense where he can read the QB’s eyes and help in run support.

Power Statement:

Alijah Huzzie was extremely successful at the FCS level and is off to a hot start with UNC in 2023. He has shown to be a playmaker in the secondary that can create turnovers. I believe he could drop some weight to improve his overall quickness. He has the potential to make a roster because of his special teams experience, he has trustworthy hands as a returner with good vision.
