Player Summary:
A one year starter for Vanderbilt after spending the past four years at Stanford before transferring. Comes from NFL pedigree as his father played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Also has a background running track. Plays as the standup WOLB in a 4-2-5 defense where he has pass rushing duties as well as the occasional drop back into coverage. Long and lean body with a filled out frame that is well put together, paired with good AA, smooth hip movement, quick feet, solid play strength, and solid football intelligence. Has solid get off speed on the snap. Solid lateral movement and speed that leads to solid stunt executions. Has good eyes that can distinguish run and pass plays. Has a high motor and good pursuit abilities. A good tackler that can either meet the ball carrier in the gap or chase down from behind, also has a solid ability to tackle in open space. Has dropped into coverage displaying solid ability to drop into space, read the play and run downhill to make the tackle using his solid short area burst. Wins using speed and quickness to win off the edge.
Has adequate upfield burst, usually pushed out of his pass rush path. Lacks pass rush moves, seen using rip moves or bull rush that are ineffective. Poor use of hands that also affect his pass rush and poor block shedding ability. He is also undersized for a prototypical NFL edge rusher.
Scheme Fit:
Best if used as a weak side OLB in a defensive scheme that allows him to be in a 1 on 1 situation or drop back into coverage. With his size and AA he may look at dropping into a true linebacker position.
Power Statement:
A developmental OLB who has the size, AA and ability to rush and drop into coverage who should look at transforming into a true WLB position for the next level and may have a higher upside that could lead to a bigger role.
