Player Summary:
Willie Roberts is an experienced corner who spent time playing at Stephen F. Austin before transferring to Louisiana Tech in 2022. Willie is a smaller build for a corner but shows solid athleticism and good ball skills. He is primarily used as a press-man corner who shows a good arm jab, active hands, and great short-area quickness in coverage. Willie runs well in with fluid hips and transitions naturally out of his backpedal. He’s quick out of his break once he spots the ball, stays with his man in pursuit, and doesn’t shy away from contact at the point of attack. Roberts possesses instinctive ball skills, consistently playing through the receiver’s hands or high-pointing the ball for a deflection. His size does limit his ability to cover bigger receivers when the ball is thrown outside of his reach in addition to rendering him a liability protecting the edge against bigger backs or their blockers. This combination projects Roberts to be a serviceable nickel at the next level, and his athletic ability will shine covering the slot.
Scheme Fit:
Slot corner in a nickel-heavy scheme.
Power Statement:
Willie Roberts is an athletic corner with fluid hips, good short-area pursuit, and high-level ball skills whose size will limit his ability to play on the perimeter in the NFL.
