Player Summary:
6th YR RS SR and 1 yr full-time starter at TE where he aligns mostly inline and occasionally in the slot in the zone and gap blocking scheme of AZUN. He was a walk-on transfer to AZUN, previously playing at UTSO prior to the 2022 season. He possesses average height, marginal weight and subpar speed with an athletic build. He is an ordinary athlete showing a combination of solid explosiveness with ordinary COD, balance, acceleration, lateral quickness and agility with average play speed. He displays average quickness off the LOS and displays solid FBI as he reads the coverage and breaks open by finding the soft spot in zone coverage. He runs an above-average route tree consisting of seam, curl, deep cross, out, corner, flat and drag routes. He possesses solid hands as he makes the catch with his hands close to his body on passes thrown on target. In rare instances where he is in contested catch situations, he does a good job of using his body to shield off Nickel DB with ordinary ball skills before making the catch. He does a solid job of working his way back to the QB on broken plays. He is an above-average run blocker. He squares his shoulders and displays solid UOH winning battles with his hands inside before generating movement at the POA with his good foot drive and physical toughness against EDGE with adequate size and length. He is as he shows solid UOH in his punch, placement and timing as he negates the progress of EDGE with subpar getoff and size. He exhibits ordinary hip fluidity as he breaks off his stem at a 45- and 90-degree angle. Ordinary AA prevents him from separating in off-man against Nickel DB and LB with solid play speed. Lack of quality play speed prevents him from gaining significant YAC. Ordinary contact balance prevents him from breaking tackles from LB with good explosiveness.
Scheme Fit:
YTE with occasional slot alignment due to his above-average ability as a run blocker and is reliable in the passing game.
Power Statement:
Tough, intelligent player who plays well as a run blocker and is a reliable receiver in the passing game. Lack of quality AA and play speed limit his playmaking ability.
